Today, 4th July 2015, PenguWIN steps into the second year of successful operations. It has been an exciting year meeting different kinds of people with different backgrounds and aspirations in life. From my earlier corporate avatar working for a Global IT Organization, the move into financial services, specifically personal finance has been immensely satisfying and great learning. Personal Finance and investment is not new to me as I have been into it for more than a decade now but the move as a full time Practitioner is a paradigm shift. I have always dreamt of making a positive impact in the lives of people and I am convinced that this profession would give me a good opportunity to fulfill it.
The success of business like us depends on success and satisfaction of clients and with about 80 clients and 50 families the going has been quite good so far. A significant proportion of our clients are new to financial investments, especially equities and however much historic data and facts are presented, unless the investors experience it personally in their portfolios, the conviction will not be there. It would take about 2 to 3 years in the current market scenario for investors to see consistent positive returns i.e. the portfolio value always being higher than the invested amount in an equity dominated portfolio. Investors who are patient and able to assimilate this turbulence are sure to get amply rewarded.
The Sensex has grown from 100 in 1979 to about 28,000 and if one had invested during its inception the amount would have multiplied 280 times (Gold has multiplied about 35 times and Fixed Deposits about 20 times during the same period) or a compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of over 16%. For investors who are worried about the Greece issue or poor corporate earnings in the recent quarters, following facts should provide confidence in Indian growth story:
The 280 times growth of Sensex had the following events in its path (select few):
- Harshad Mehta Scam
- Asian Crisis
- Pokran II
- Tech Bubble
- Ketan Parek Scam
- Lehman Crisis
- Satyam Debacle
- 2G, Common Wealth and Coal Scam
- Quantitative Easing
The markets have ignored all these noises and has continuously grown. Such is the power of equity and there is no better place to invest than India.
For investors who still fear the equities and markets, systematic investing is the best possible route. The power of SIPs have been written in multiple blogs and PenguWIN has a dedicated page to illustrate the benefits of SIP https://penguwin.com/sigaramsip-kodeeswaran/
Last but not the least, our sincere thanks to all our esteemed clients. Without their support and encouragement we would not be where we are today. We strongly believe that references and word of mouth of delighted customers is what helps us grow rather than marketing gimmicks which are ephemeral.
